So, here we are back in the ICU. Literally 1 week after his last surgery on Friday Joseph started throwing up and could not stop. We brought him again to the ER around 4:30 pm and within about 2 hours he was back in the OR. The revised the shunt due to ANOTHER blockage. The surgeon felt there may be a need to go back in if the scans didn't show correct placement of the new catheter.
The next morning he saw the scans and said a 3rd surgery would be needed and could not wait until Monday. About and hour later...you guessed it..back into to OR. The surgery went well and the doctor seemed pleased with the results. They will be doing more scans to make sure everything continues to look good.
So, over the last 8 days Joseph had 3 surgeries on his shunt. He was supposed to be going into surgery for his hip on Wednesday but due to these recent issues it has been moved back. He needs a break. The surgeon for his hips said to let him heal about 3-4 weeks and then we can reschedule his surgery.
Joseph is currently resting in the ICU. I'm expecting we can be home by Monday if all goes well. He has been relying on pain meds today, but over all doing well. Once we go home I will post another update.

Spoke to Soon...
So literally just as I post that there are no illnesses or ER visits to report...we have to go to the ER on 10/02/09. Turns out what was making Joseph sick was a shunt malfunction. He ended up going into the ER at about 9:30-10:00pm and at about 12:15am was having surgery to fix the blockage in his shunt. CRAZY! I had no idea it was that serious. I just wanted to rule it out and it turned out to be the cause of it all. Good thing we took him in. The surgery went very well. Dr. Megahed was pleased with the results and said everything was working perfectly again. He spent the night in the Pediatric ICU and I stayed with him. He was released at 9:00pm on 10/03/09.
The very next day little Joseph spiked a fever of 101.7. Just having surgery the night before was not a good sign. So back up to the ER we went. Poor little guy had to endure even more tests! Luckily though, they all came back negative and he was able to go home in the early hours of the morning. Since then he has been doing great. No more fevers or any other sign of infection. We will meet with his doctor again on Thursday morning so he can look at the incision. As for now, the hip surgery on the 14th is still scheduled. Not looking forward to it, but anxious to get it over and done with. Here's hoping for no more craziness for a while!

Updates...Get your updates here!!!
Wow, I cant believe its been a month since I posted last. I thought it was only a couple weeks! Lets give the quick run down of updates shall we?
Joe- He has taken on a new adventure! A Soccer Coach!(Very adorable I might add)He took on the task when Hailey and Megan were faced with not having a coach this season if people did not volunteer. At the sheer thought of the girls not getting to play, Joe stepped up. The girls love having him as their coach and spending the extra time with him. Joe was a little nervous to do this because he never played soccer as a child and doesn't know much about the sport. The beauty of it though is...the kids are 5 and 6 years old...they have no clue either! The parents have told him on numerous occasions their kids are having a blast and thank him often for volunteering. My dad has also been gracious enough to step up as the Assistant Coach! This brings back SOOO many memories for me. Dad used to help coach CJ and I when we were young kids. I loved those days. Makes me smile each time I think of the memories my dad is now creating with my girls.
Heidi- AKA ME! There is not a whole lot more going on in my life from the last time. Still working full time and taking care of the kids. I have decided though that I want to spend more quality time with the kids. One on one. I tried this once with Hailey by taking her to the Zoo...just her and I. We had a great time. Not sure what really got in the way of doing it again. I look at them daily and see how much they are growing..I don't want to look back and think..."Wow..its over? Their childhood is gone and I forgot to make memories!!" That is going to be a little rough with some of the coming up challenges...but we will make it work.
Hailey- She is LOVING 1st grade. Her teacher Ms. Toney is amazing. She knows how to bring out the best in her and give her so much confidence. She takes time to do the little things such as calling us at home one evening just to let us know how great Hailey was that day. When she was out for 2 days this past week...Joe stopped by to get her homework and Ms. Toney's reaction was "WHERE IS MY GIRL?" I love that about educators. Especially the ones that truly love their jobs and its more than just a paycheck to them. I remember feeling the same way about my Aunt Pam as a child. When she was a teacher, each vacation we made to their house she always included a fun activity that required some work...but the rewards were always awesome! Such as, While there for the week we needed to read a couple of books. Taking time each day to read a few chapters until it was done. Once we finished the books we would spend the WHOLE day at the lake. She would spoil us rotten and made sure we knew it was because we accomplished a goal. I loved her for that. Teachers are truly amazing people.
Megan- She is back to missing Hailey during the day but has developed quite the imagination! She loves to do pretend play. Very often we can sneak up to her room to see her toys lined in a row while she moves each figure around and creating her own conversations. I love watching her do this. Her imagination is unstoppable. She also loves to spend time with her little brother. I think she wants to take on Hailey's role as a big sister. She loves to help care for him during the day. She has also gotten quite good at using the computer. She loves to go to the Disney website and click away. Today in fact she asked me to help her print off a Belle bookmark. I showed her how to use it and sure enough...she sat on the couch reading her book and stopping here and there to use her new book mark. :)

Just the pediatrician...who said he was just going through a cold or some allergies. His hip surgery has been scheduled for Oct 14th at 8am. We are to report to the hospital at 6am. I dread this surgery honestly. I cant imagine him in a cast for 6 weeks! We will meet with the doctor on Oct 9th to review over the surgery and have any questions we have addressed. I am just hoping this time period flies by and that the surgery is successful in its goal of straightening him out. His vision seems to have improved as well. All of this therapists seem to notice it also. We will be meeting with the eye doctor again soon to see how things have changed over the last 6 months. Joseph has also gained some weight! For the longest time he couldn't move past 14lbs. He is now almost 17! We started giving him Pedia Sure and its working! He loves the vanilla flavor. He also recently started on Stage 3 baby food. He is tolerating the texture pretty well. All in all..he is progressing nicely. :)
I guess that about takes care of it all. Still taking each day one step at a time and enjoying the time we have together. We decided to not re list the house after having it on the market for 5 months without a sale. We had several bites but no firm catches. We feel this may not have been the best time for us and that the Lord has other plans. Time will tell. Until next time...see ya!
